Alex Flinn's first novel, Breathing Underwater, was an attention-getting book that garnered several significant awards, including a Top 10 Best Book for Young Adults from YALSA, as well as a Quick Pick for Reluctant Young Adult Readers, and has since been nominated for more than a dozen state book awards. That book and her succeeding novels have examined the actions and emotions of fictional teens who are in one way or another victims of abuse and involved in some legal issue. Her characters are true to life, her writing is uncompromising, and her novels and short stories are leaving a significant mark in the field of literature for young people.
