Graham Salisbury Graham Salisbury

Last updated on: February 9, 2010

grew up in the Hawaiian Islands, a place that has provided the setting for all of his award-winning novels—Blue Skin of the Sea, Under the Blood-Red Sun, Shark Bait, and Jungle Dogs—as well as a number of short stories. Before becoming a published author, Graham Salisbury worked as a deckhand on a deep-sea charter fishing boat, skippered a glass-bottom tourist boat, carved Hawaiian tikis with a hammer and chisel, taught elementary school, was a graphic artist, was a member of the classic rock band Millennium, and earned a BA degree from California State University, Northridge, and an MFA from Vermont College of Norwich University. He’s won the Scott O’Dell Award, the Judy Lopez Memorial Award, the Oregon Book Award, the California Young Reader Medal, the Nene Award from Hawaii, and For Lord of the Deep, the Boston Globe-Horn Book Award.
