Joan Bauer Joan Bauer

Last updated on: January 29, 2010

The writing career of Joan Bauer was launched when Delacorte Press chose Squashed from among thousands of manuscripts submitted for the Delacorte Press Prize for a First Young Adult Novel. Her promising talent has been evident in each of her subsequent novels, especially in Rules of the Road that won the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for Young Adult Fiction, the Golden Kite Award from the Society of Children's Book Writers and Illustrators, and was selected by the American Library Association as one of the 100 Best of the Best Books for Young Adults published during the last four decades of the twentieth century. And her recent Hope Was Here was not only one of the Top Ten Best Books for Young Adults published in 2000, but was also a Newbery Honor Book and a Christopher Award winner.
